Fleas are very small, wingless parasites who feast on the blood of its warm-blooded host. Fleas are between 1/16 and 1/8 in length, very agile, and can jump vertically up to seven inches high, making them one of the best jumpers of known animals based on their size.

Fleas are found outside and can be brought indoors by a pet (such as a cat or dog) or by a human.  Fleas have a big appetite, and just one can cause you or your pet misery.

Things to be on the lookout for include: Numerous small, slightly raised bites on yourself or your pet; Constant itching from flea bites; Specks of dirt in the hair of your pet known as “flea dirt” (which is actually flea fecal material).

Keeping your pets bathed and using proper flea medications are key to keeping a flea infestation from happening, but sometimes that’s not enough.
